A classy combination of Voltaire’s sharp humour with Bernstein’s musical magic. Barricade Arts bring this rollicking story to life for you to enjoy. 'All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds…' In the idyllic fairy-tale town of Thunder-ten-Tronck, Candide is taught that all is for the best. But after being cast out into the world, and having suffered unimaginable hardships, he is forced to question this optimism. Candide is here to help us laugh at the troubles we all face, delivering a spectacular night of superb music and absurd fun. Based on the famous work by Voltaire, this Grammy award-winning musical from Leonard Bernstein, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, brings the satire to life. As part of the celebrations for Bernstein at 100, Candide is joining the worldwide commemoration of his musical genius.

Inspired by Monty Python, this playful production journeys across the globe with Candide, enjoying the absurd contrasts between the bright musical style and farcical chain of events. Pessimism has never been so entertaining. Remember remember the 5th of November...
