“Two years ago, the human rights world lost one of its founding members: Nigel Rodley. A lawyer, a human rights activist and a teacher. A man who had a huge impact on the international human rights system and whose warm personality, intellect, and professionalism inspired many people around the globe.” With the support of the Human Rights Centre of the University of Essex and numerous other donors, Human Rights in the Picture has produced The Long Haul: pressure, persuasion, patience. The film features “more than 25 renowned experts” who explore the “current backlash on human rights and how to respond”. The film “triggers debate on the future of human rights as well as the movement’s history, impact, and legal framework. It investigates strategies to protect current standards and institutions but also how to move forward and adapt to new realities.” Join us for the world premiere of the film at Essex.

The creators of the film, Victor Fokke, the filmmaker; Nadja Houben, the director of Human Rights in the Picture; and Dr Gabriela Echeverria, Producer, who’s PhD was supervised by Professor Rodley, will answer audience members' questions following the screening. Noam Lubell, Professor of International Law of Armed Conflict at the School of Law & Human Rights Centre of the University of Essex, will introduce the film. Registration 17:00-17:30 | Film screening 17:30-19:00 | Reception to follow. All Welcome.
