Hertford Business and Economics Society presents: Sir Martin Donnelly in conversation with Germany’s Ambassador the UK Dr Peter Ammon On UK-German Cooperation after Brexit: Risks and Opportunities Sir Martin Donnelly served as a senior British civil servant until 2017, when he retired as Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Trade. Before holding this post, Donnelly held numerous civil service positions including Director General for Economics (later, Europe and Globalisation) at the Foreign Office, Deputy Head of the European Secretariat at the Cabinet Office, and Private Secretary to the Secretary of Northern Ireland. Dr Peter Ammon has been Germany’s Ambassador to the UK since 2014. He has previously held a number of advisory and diplomatic offices in the German government, including Ambassador the United States (2011-2014), Ambassador to France (2007-8), and Head of Policy Planning and speech writer for former President Roman Herzog (1996-1999).

Ammon is a strong proponent of free trade, and the potential benefits of globalisation for peace and prosperity. His current agenda in London focuses on minimising the economic and political risks of Brexit. Unfortunately, there is no stair-free access to the Baring Room.
