Led by Chief Digital Officer at the Department for Communities and Local Government Paul Maltby, this masterclass in public policy will reflect on the challenges and opportunities of the digital environment for public policy and how it is designed, made and delivered. There will also be a chance to hear about Paul’s career and experience in a number of public policy roles, and opportunities for networking. This Masterclass is a taster for the University of Bath's new part-time MSc in Public Policy (MPP), launching in September 2018. It is one of two such events, with the other to be held in Bath on 19 April. The Bath MPP draws on outstanding international expertise in applied research and policy studies. It explores creative and innovative approaches for making, shaping and influencing policy, design, and delivery.

Intellectually challenging, analytically rigorous and practical, the Bath MPP can be combined with full-time employment. Speaker profile Paul is the Chief Digital Officer at the Department for Communities and Local Government where he is focussed on improving the Department’s digital services, working with local government to develop their digital capacity, and improving access to data to support innovation in the housing, land and planning sectors. He previously led the government’s new data agenda as Director of Data in the Cabinet Office’s Government Digital Service, with responsibility for open data, data science in government, data infrastructure and data legislation. He has a background in public service innovation and reform in government with spells in Leicestershire County Council, the Home Office and the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit.
