***OPERA WEEKENDER*** Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st January Off the back of the success of our first Opera Weekender, we’re doing it all over again with a host of brand new events and performances. Join us for a weekend of free performances, pop-up events, talks and screenings in celebration of our critically acclaimed exhibition Opera: Passion, Power & Politics. Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre, Level 4 Guildhall School of Music & Drama presents: The Phantom on Film Sunday 21 January 13.30, 14.30 and 15.30 Discover how opera’s most famous off-shoot - The Phantom of the Opera - has inspired and infiltrated cultures around the world and been adapted for artistic mediums and genres from film through to cabaret. This series of presentations featuring film clips, audience interaction and live performances by students and alumni of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama shows the prolific influence of The Phantom of the Opera across the globe. Hochhauser auditorium, Sackler Centre Brighton Theatre presents extracts from IMPALED the opera Sunday 21 January 16.00 ‘My stake thrusts its roots deep into the soul of this nation. I am cruel and it hurts; you only punish those you love.’ Brighton Theatre presents extracts from IMPALED, a new opera based on the play Vlad The Impaler by Marin Sorescu.
