This traditional, headline debate offers an opportunity to interrogate the United Kingdom's political leaders and establish in whose hands the apparatus of state should rest. SPEAKERS Proposition Stephen Horvath: 2nd Year History & Politics student at New College, and Treasurer-Elect of the Union.

Hilary Benn MP: The Chair of the Exiting the European Union Select Committee, he has held many positions in Labour’s Shadow Cabinet, including Shadow Foreign Secretary (2015-2016) and Shadow Leader of the House of Commons (2010-2011). Sir Vince Cable MP: The Leader of the Liberal Democrats, he served as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (2010-2015) and as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer (2003-2010). Emily Thornberry MP: The Shadow First Secretary of State and Shadow Foreign Secretary, she is a British Labour politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Islington South and Finsbury. Opposition Molly Greenwood: 2nd Year German & Italian student at St Hilda's College, and Chief of Staff at the Union. Damian Green: The First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office, he returns to the Oxford Union on the 40th anniversary of his tenure as President (Michaelmas Term 1977).
