A double bill of theatre, poetry and music to whisk you back to the days of World War II when a shortage of crews to keep the working boats going brought a new breed of boater to the canal. Young women, later nicknamed ‘Idle Women’, took on the challenge of managing a pair of 72ft narrow boats and 50 tons of cargo. After a successful summer tour recreating the journey the trainees worked, Alarum are presenting a limited number of shows on the Oxford canal. Come and enjoy Isobel’s War (Kate Saffin) and Idle Women and Judies (Heather Wastie). And more about Alarum and the tour on the website Tickets £10/£8 available from: Eventbrite or reserve via email [email protected] or phone 07976 818959 The show starts at 8pm (because the yoga class finishes at 7.15).

There are currently no kitchen facilities at the institute - but the Anchor is next door and is looking forward to your custom.

There are also shows that week in Shipton-on-Cherwell, Enslow, Wolvercote and Abingdon. All can be found on our Eventbrite page:
