The Wildlife Trust has teamed up with Whoosh Explore Canoe Club for a unique way to experience and appreciate nature on the Hertfordshire and Essex border river. You could be spotting wildlife whilst gliding along the waters of the River Stort. Trips start out from Redricks Lakes, and include a relaxing self-guided paddle with basic instruction to get you started as well as a guided walk around a Nature Reserve with a Wildlife Trust expert. Whoosh Explore will be donating £10 per ticket sale from these events to the Wildlife Trust. Dawn Chorus Early Morning River Paddle: 07:15 – 10:00am on the following Saturdays March 17th March 24th April 28th May 19th June 16th July 21st Paddling sessions can be from our base at Redricks lakes we are also investigation alternative arrangements to see if we are able to arrange for a launch site nearer to the Thorley Wash location with a local land owners permission.

On your canoe trip We will paddle on a Dawn Chorus paddle along the River Stort then visit one of the Wildlife Trust’s waterside nature reserves. Wildlife experts will help you to identify birds along the way through their early morning calls. Then your magical early morning paddle on the river will continue, ending back at the start point around 10am. Evening Paddles and Bat Spotting Experience: 18:30-21:45 Wednesday 13th June Monday 9th July Tuesday 9th October ( times to be confirmed) Canoes will leave from Whoosh Explore’s base at Redricks Lakes. After a peaceful early evening paddle on the River Stort you will be met back at base by a Wildlife Trust expert, just as the bats are starting to come out. You will then be taken on a guided walk as dusk settles. Everyone will have the opportunity to use a bat detector to pick up the ultrasonic frequencies used by bats as they hunt. The event will finish by 9.45pm You will receive a full safety briefing and paddle demonstration before setting off in your canoe. Trips are not escorted on the river but Whoosh Explore Coaches will be paddling and offering guidance at the beginning and end of the trip for paddlers requiring assistance.
