Join us this Halloween for an afternoon of live music and talks exploring the dark threads that run through folk culture and the contemporary music, literature and film it inspires. Organised in collaboration with Folk Horror Revival. Folk Horror incorporates cult rituals, ancient mythologies and folklore, drawn together with dark comedy, folk music and cult films of the mid-20th Century. These include cult favourites The Wicker Man, The Blood on Satan's Claw and The Witchfinder General, as well as creepy childrens’ shows of yesteryear such as The Owl Service, Children of the Stones and The Witches and the Grinnygog amongst numerous others.

Folk Horror Revival’s diverse talks and atmospheric music from renowned musicians and speakers reveal how Folk Horror has evolved over time and across the globe. Awakening the Fields follows previous events held at The British Museum in London and Summerhall in Edinburgh. Banner Video Music - On Another Earth (edit) by Adharca

What better way to spend an October afternoon than " Awakening the Fields" at the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield. The Consumptives featuring Mother of Crows will be performing together with the brilliant Sharron Kraus. I'll be reading my new poetry together with classics Rain Wolves and What's In the Cellar Mrs Mellor? with improvisers Charlie Collins and Beatrix Ward-Fernandez providing a backdrop of twisted melancholy. We also feature Polish enchantress SylwiaDrwal as Mother of Crows singing her own compositions. 28th October.
