Friday February 23rd 6:30-9PM SOAS KLT The SOAS Native Spirit Film Society and Centre of Taiwan Studies welcomes you to our film screening of 'Finding Sayun'. Both the Native Spirit Film Society and SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies are looking to further the conversation about indigenous Taiwanese culture through special lectures, film screenings and workshops. For her debut feature, Finding Sayun (不一樣的月光), Atayal director Chen Chieh-yao (陳潔瑤) returns to her home village to unearth the legend of Sayun, an Atayal girl who fell to her death in a turbulent stream while carrying a Japanese teacher’s belongings at the end of World War II. Through the film, Chen (or Laha Mebow in Atayal) examines her Aboriginal roots through personal memories and scenes from everyday life.
