The Milton Keynes branch of the CQI invite you to our event on Sustainability in the Food Sector at the Quadrant in Milton Keynes. We will be exploring how media trends and Lifecyle thinking play a role in reducing environmental impacts Sustainability is a topic in the news now more than ever, with the Paris Climate commitment and Blue Planet encapsulating the public’s imagination. There is now more need than ever for businesses to embrace sustainability with carbon reporting, energy efficiency and science-based targets coming at the forefront of this, as well as the expanding use of ISO 14001 or 50001 environmental and energy management systems. This talk will look into the current trends in sustainability such as palm oil, plastics and packaging, latte levy, and the challenge of reducing your environmental impact in a media conscious environment.

With food waste being the single biggest environmental impact in the foodservice sector, this talk will look into how lifecycle thinking plays a role in reducing Baxterstoreys’ environmental impact across the value chain, and in all of our operations. There will be a particular focus on challenging some of the assumptions presented in the media such as the must or menace of plastic. Henry Cawson is Sustainability Manager for Baxterstorey, the UK’s largest independent foodservice business providing foodservice and hospitality in the workplace to clients including PwC, RBS, Goldman Sachs and Network Rail. Henry graduated from Durham University with a degree in Geography and began his career in catering operations before moving into sustainability in 2017. Last year Henry sat on an industry panel talking about the challenges and barriers to sustainable supply chains in future cities. This event is free for all CQI members and IRCA auditors and their guests.
