Cardiff Animation Nights is back. Bringing some of our favourite new animated short films from around the world to Kongs Cardiff on Thursday 1st March. It's free and open to everyone, whether you're a cartoon fan, an animator, or you just want to check out something new. We're screening some amazing, funny, moving, weird and brilliant independent animated short films this month, including: GRANDPA WALRUS Lucrèce Andreae's beautiful, moving, funny 2D short, featured at Annecy and Cannes. "On the windy and cloudy beach, Granny is praying, Mum is shouting, the sisters don’t care, Lucas is alone. Grandpa was a weird guy, now he’s dead." THE GREEN BIRD Hilarious slapstick CG short, created by five directors at Mopa, Provence. "A Green Bird lays its first egg and is going to try everything to make it hatch." NIGHTHAWK A dark and atmospheric short by Slovenian director Špela Čadež, screened at Sundance and Annecy and winner of top awards at HAFF (Holand) and GLAS (USA) and Animafest Zagreb.

“It’s like Charles Bukowski and Steve McQueen teamed up with a badger to make a stop motion film about the tragic glaze, craze and daze of alcohol abuse.” – Chris Robinson, artistic director of the Ottawa International Animation Festival COPS & ROBBERS German director Florian Maubach's nostalgic and evocative 2D short brilliantly captures the feeling of straddling the line between childhood and teens. "While they play Cops and Robbers, Daniel begins to realize that there is something else between catching and being caught." FILMS TO BREAK PROJECTORS Iloobia's mesmerising celebration of celluloid, winner of Best of British Animation at Encounters. "Films to Break Projectors glues, scrapes and splices 35mm, 16mm and 8mm film to create unprojectable celluloid sculptures. Reanimating the material reveals traces of ambiguous narratives emerging from within." AND MUCH MORE... In the Level 2 space at Kongs Cardiff (opposite Cardiff Market), St Mary Street, Cardiff. Doors 7:30pm, films from 8pm. Free entry. Come for the films, stay for a drink and meet other animation fans.
