Eric Chenaux A true post-modern troubadour, with a body of solo work documented across five albums released on the Constellation label since 2006, centering around Chenaux's dextrous, fried guitar playing juxtaposed with a gorgeously clear and lyrical singing voice. An ingenious recombinant use of traditional folk and consort music tropes in earlier albums has over time evolved into a wholly original form of balladry, shot through with a singular vernacular of improvised electric and nylon-string guitar excursions. “In the field of avant guitar wrangling, Chenaux’s style is genuinely distinctive…His latest is an(other) effortlessly lovely solo set that recalls John Martyn, Marc Ribot, Arthur Russell and the Hardanger fiddle tradition, as it weaves trippily between improve jazz, electronica, folk-drone and lounge balladry.” – Uncut “Chenaux’s voice expands haunting, jazz-tuned melodies from the inside.

His voice is weightless, haunting, alighting on words and phrases without putting pressure on them, then skittering up an octave or so for spectral climaxes.” – Dusted Magazine Cheer Glasgow based Alec Cheer has been active as a solo artist under the name Cheer since 2001 and has released a hefty volume of work on labels such as Benbecula Records, Drifting Falling, Apollolaan, At War With False Noise and his own Macrowhisker label. A multi-instrumentalist of sorts, with guitar his preferred weapon of choice, Cheer has opened for the likes of Grouper, Julianna Barwick, Six Organs of Admittance, RM Hubbert, and Richard Dawson to name but a few. His new self-titled album marks a turning point in his extensive discography, gone are the electronics and effects of earlier works. Leaving finally nothing but clear space for the acoustic guitar to weave and chime. Doors 7.30pm Friday, 13th April Henry’s Cellar Bar, Edinburgh Tickets £7.50 (plus BF) via
