Weather permitting; we hope to run the traditional Boxing Day hockey again this year. This is a session with mixed teams playing for fun and it is aimed at experienced players who are eligible to play adult hockey (must be 13+). Former club members often put in an appearance as they are home visiting family for the Christmas period. This is a free social event. The clubhouse will be open from 10:30am to 1:00pm with a view to starting play at 11am. The bar will not be opened but tea and coffee making facilities will definitely be available. If you would like to play, please let me know (details below) so that I can draw up a schedule of games accordingly. E-mail me at [email protected] if you intend to come along. I will try and sort people into mixed teams and allocate a colour to each separate team, as long as I have the information through before Christmas.

Every player should bring a club shirt and a black alternative, just in case. I will try and accommodate stragglers on the day but it will be much easier if you give me notice that you are coming. As this is a fun occasion, there will be no goalkeepers, no hits on goal permitted (only push or slap) and the ball must hit the back board. ANY gratuitous grandstanding by first team players will be penalised at the umpire's discretion - be warned. . . Each team will be expected to provide someone willing to umpire when not playing themselves. Games will probably be ten to fifteen minutes long and are likely to be played across the pitch if there is the usual level of interest. In the event that the pitch is covered in snow or frozen we will have to cancel. There will be no easy way to let everyone know so you will have to use your own judgment on the day. Please do let me know if you would like to take part as we will be able to get more playing in if I can have the organising done in advance. Remember that this is very much a fun event and should be approached by all in this way. No glass will be permitted on the pitch for safety reasons. John Peoples [email protected]
