BEDLAM: TRIANGLE. The Undercroft Gallery. Norwich Gennadiy Ivanov's project What: Exhibition “Bedlam: Triangle”. Project by Gennadiy Ivanov. Where: The Undercroft Gallery, Norwich When: 06th-29th July 2018 Proposal. TRIANGLE: HUMAN – TECHNOLOGIES – NATURE “I have made it a priority of this government to tackle the injustice of mental illness.” Prime Minister Theresa May (Norfolk, Oct, 26th) We are living in a dynamic pattern of emotions, behaviour and energy. Every day, more and more, we are involved in efforts to exist in this technological era. There is a constant flow of energy that is ever shifting, creating a pattern in our mental health: this is urban, environmental, social, spiritual, psychological and medical. It’s a human pattern, a technological pattern, and a pattern in nature.

In which pattern do we exist? Often people collide in these patterns, dissolving, melting like snow flakes, disappearing in a crowded street, diluted within sounds and noises: music, cars, clubs and bars; as though reflected in prisms and distorted in mirrors in skyscrapers’ windows; demoralised by cigarettes, narcotics, alcohol, becoming depressed and miserable. To get through, we are coexisting and collaborate in these surroundings. Who and what can help us in this triangle, we ask ourselves? What is deemed ‘sanity’ or ‘insanity’? Where and how do we live within it? I am trying to find the place in which to harmoniously dissolve these patterns, combine them, through different angles and lifestyle changes, to find a place of safety. I am doing it with high-level energy through organic, effortless, quality paintings, installations, videos, and performances. I am creating an exhibition pattern, an installation as an asylum, the underground shelter, there is a desire for clarity and smoothness in which to relax and think, but sometimes this breaks up and is drawn into a vortex. The exhibition’s psychological pattern – human- techno-nature- is a non-geometrical underground (undercroft) pattern, it is abstract, through which I explore the human emotional energy in a poetic landscape of images, emphasising the beauty and violence of our environment. I am interested to explore how art, dance, music and new technologies can help as an art therapy for individuals; in which strings of the human soul can be touched by art. How it can speak and integrate, how we can develop the elements of our patterns together, collaborate and reach resolution by using our voices to connect organically and spiritually through paint, sound and space. This is an abstract idea, but it’s not in itself an abstract; it is an empathetic narrative and emotional journey towards health and recovery in our future. ****** The contemporary man is a constant source of inspiration, a vast territory to explore. I am basically interested in the underlying dynamics of human behaviour: inclinations, roles, and identity. We live in a state of perpetual dependence, in a precarious balance between insanity and uncertainty. It’s quite interesting actually, to observe how the individual interacts with the environment and how the environment can influence his behaviour. How the variability of external phenomena can change the condition of internal factors: profile, inclinations, and emotions, generating a constant identification process. We live in a world where the boundary between real and imaginary is getting thinner. Sometimes, the interweaving of objective reality and perception of reality, elaborated through experience-based mental processes, can lead us elsewhere. We just collect fragments of reality, and then reassemble them, creating a new dimension, a tailored reality based on inclinations, tastes and preferences. I often focus my attention on the persistent existential vacuum condition, and then freeze it within painting. My works describe situations at the boundary between real, imaginary and paradoxical, spaces where the role is weak, the identity is blurred and the sense of instability is accentuated up to create a perpetual short circuit. ****** Bedlam a mental hospital in london, word used to say something/someone is crazy person 1: i'm going to ride my bike off my roof person 2: thats bedlam or something like "mike is totally bedlam" basically any time you use the words crazy, stupid or any other word meaning the same thing, you can replace it with bedlam (The Urban dictionary) ****** My project ‘Follow Vincent Van Gogh footsteps in Provence’ 2001-2017, as a part of the inspiration and study of mental illnesses of the artist Vincent Van Gogh, who lived and painted in the Asylum house in Saint-Remy-de-Provence in France. Francis Bacon paintings of study of Van Gogh’s paintings, is the part of inspiration and study for my Bedlam project.
