**ACADEMIC DEBATING COMPETITION** The Law Society will be hosting the annual Academic Debate Competition on a topic that will be released a week before the debate. The format of the debate is a popular academic form –namely the Karl Popper style and will be aimed at refining students analytical and effective argument construction skills. The details on the format and the rules will be found on the Word document attached to this post. We will be providing a training session for all participants on the 28th of November in conjunction with the Debating Society on Campus. This will address key debating skills and provide a platform for you to ask questions and deliberate with your fellow team members - following which the question will be released. The first round will take place on the 5th of December 2017 – a week after the release of the question in line with rules, and the second and/or round will be in the Lent term.

The debates will be chaired by a range of seasoned debaters including staff members, and will give the participants a fantastic opportunity to build on their understanding of the contested issue. Sign up for the debates are now open and will close on the 22nd of November at 7 pm. Participants will be allocated into teams of 3 and will be informed about their stance and the details of the venue soon after. Sign up’s will be operating on a first come first serve basis. Prizes include Blackwell’s vouchers for the winning team and also a certificate of participation for all participants who proceed to the semi-final and final rounds. Please note: Only REGISTERED members of the law society are permitted to take part.

Sign up here to enter the Debating Competition. Bear in mind there can only be three people per team for those who wish to sign up in a group. For more information or inquiries, email: a.tambud[email protected]
