Everywoman Forum Redressing Balance

Did you know that women represent just 17% of the UK Technology industry? #DIDFest2019 is aiming to challenge those numbers, so we’re inviting everyone to join in the conversation about how to redress the balance - because great ideas happen when we’re all included. That conversation begins in the classroom and carries all the way through to leaders of organisations. That’s why DIDFest is for: Kids of all ages Students Teachers Parents People in tech People not in tech  As part of #DIDFest2019, Birmingham-based technology business Vanti will be hosting an event for women within the local business and digital community. We’ll be having an open discussion around the perception of women in the digital and technology industry, the skills gap generally, and what local business leaders need to do to help support and inspire not only the current workforce, but also the next generation to consider careers in tech and digital.

This event will be cosy – we’re hoping to have around 15 attendees so everyone has a chance to ask questions and share their thoughts. It will also be a safe environment to share honest views and experiences, over coffee, tea, cake and snacks. We will be looking to discuss topics and questions including: What are our perceptions of the industry? What are the general stereotypes we’re aware of? Who are tech and digital careers suited for? What future skills (technical and soft skills) do we feel are going to be important? Key tips for organisational leaders on what they can do to support women in technical roles If you want to cross-train from another career into ‘tech’, where do you start? The challenges women are faced with when starting a tech career Along with feedback from other #DIDFest2019 events, we’ll be collating the thoughts and ideas shared during this session (anonymously if that’s your preference) and using these to help shape the Midlands’ Women in Tech agenda.
If this sounds like something you’d like to be involved in, either as a digital business leader, a woman in an existing tech role, or someone thinking of transitioning into a career in tech or digital, we’d love to have you there. Register for your free ticket ASAP as attendance will be limited.
