Sustainable Summer Fashion Up Cycling Full Day

Fun, creative and informative. Our sessions are designed to inspire creativity while considering and learning the effects we have on the environment. Attendees are asked to bring with them an item/items of clothing they, you, their brother or sister...no longer wear that would otherwise be taken to a charity shop or thrown away. You'll be shown how to take these unwearable items and up-cycle them into something new to take home. Many do not realise the detrimental effects fast fashion has on our environment and the damage it’s causing to third world communities alike. It is easy to ignore and dehumanise this subject. We think of our clothing as being made by a machine and that our unwanted clothing is benefiting someone else once we drop a bag to the charity shop. This is far from the reality and I believe it is important to teach our future generations how they can make big and small changes to make a positive impact on this social and environmental problem.  There is also a huge reward that comes from starting with something you thought was bin worthy and finding use for it once again.

You are able to be very creatively free and we would encourage the children to come up with the ideas of what the new item could be themselves (with guidance and support).  This is not a sewing workshop, you do not need any sewing experience as a workshop leader would do this for you if required. There is also a range of non-sew techniques that can be used. The session includes a brief look into the effects our clothing habits have. Guided assistance throughout. Premium haberdashery (buttons, sequins, trims, fabric etc) and sewing equipment to aid your up-cycle will all be provided By White Rabbit Apparel Ltd.
