Brl Seminar Series August

BRL Seminar Series  19th August 2019 We are pleased to host Dr Robert Ross University of La Trobe University Melbourne Name: Dr Robert Ross   Title: Robots in smelly places and new ways to engage students.   Description: Every day we flush the toilet, often with little thought as to exactly what happens next – until something goes catastrophically wrong. No-one wants blocked or collapsed sewers or sewerage leaking into the environment, but with an aging sewer network these are some very real challenges faced by water authorities. This seminar will focus on a series of robots which have been developed and are currently under development which have been used across 5 water authorities in Victoria.   Primarily they are being used to perform condition assessment, involving probing and related techniques to estimate the structural integrity and hence assign a priority related to remediation or replacement.

Robert will also discuss Escape Room Based Learning which is proving a very effective means of engaging students and fostering teamwork.   Bio: Robert is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Engineering at La Trobe University. Robert is the director of the RAMPS (rampslaboratory.com) R&D group and is actively involved in research and development across robotics, sensors, industrial prototyping and educational technology areas. Robert is the Teaching and Learning Coordinator for all of Engineering and has had a long standing and fruitful partnership with water authorities to deliver innovations related to condition assessment.   Please book your space to secure your seat.   Kind regards   Tony Pipe
