Reading Sql Server Azure Data Services User Group June

Hi everyone. The next meeting of 2019 is creeping up on us fast and Simon Whiteley from Advancing Analytics and Neil Hambly from DataMovements, have both very kindly agreed to present.  Don't forget we have the dates lined up for the year so get them into your diary 14th August  16th October  11th December  We look forward to seeing you next week Christian Bolton & Emma Zambonini  Agenda 18:00 - Doors open and networking 18:30 - Learn about Azure SQL Datawarehouse with Simon Whiteley Azure SQL Datawarehouse is an analytics beast - Microsoft's answer to the cloud MPP game, it looks and feels like a normal SQL Server, but it's a very different story under the hood. Reflecting on several large-scale Azure DW projects, this session gathers together learnings, successes, failures and general opinions into a crash course in using Azure DataWarehouse “properly”.

With Generation 2, the game changed even more, and with more integration options than ever before it can be tricky to work out the best place to actually slot SQLDW into the mix. Come prepared with your questions, queries and scenarios, and we'll run through the service, how it works and how to get the most out of it. Director of Engineering for Advancing Analytics Ltd and Microsoft Data Platform MVP, Simon is a seasoned solution architect & technical lead with well over a decade of Microsoft Analytics experience. A deep techie with a focus on emerging cloud technologies and applying "big data" thinking to traditional analytics problems, Simon also has a passion for bringing it back to the high level and making sense of the bigger picture. When not tinkering with tech, Simon is a death-dodging London cyclist, a sampler of craft beers, an avid chef and a general nerdy person.
19:30 - Pizza and networking 20:00 - Introduction to SQL Server 2019 Big Data Clusters with Neil Hambly Introducing the new capability in SQL Server 2019 that is Big Data Clusters, this session will take you on a journey to understanding its Architecture, Purpose and Capabilities (all in 1 hour). We will be asking pertinent questions such as “Why is Big Data Clusters needed… ”“What challenges will it solve... ““How can this be integrated with my existing SQL Servers…”“What are its components...” Neil Hambly @Neil_Hambly will take us through SQL Server 2019 Big Data Cluster, explaining why this could be something you’ll be wanting to add to your environments. Neil is founder & CEO @ DataMovements, a Gold Microsoft Partner and MCT, he is also currently doing a tech review for SQL Server 2019 Big Data Clusters book, once SQL Server 2019 has been launched he will be running training courses & workshops on the latest release.
