Professor David Nutt Liberalising Drug Laws Brains

The York Union warmly invites you to attend our first external speaker event of 2019 as we welcome Professor David Nutt for an address titled: 'Liberalising drug laws to help our brains.' Professor Nutt is one of Britain's leading scientists and a strong advocate for drug law reform. He is the Edmond J. Safra Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology and director of the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit in the Division of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London. Nutt is currently Chair of DrugScience (formally the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs (ISCD) and President of the European Brain Council. previously he has been President of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), the British Neuroscience Association (BNA) and the British Association of Psychopharmacology (BAP).

In addition, he is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and of Psychiatrists and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He is also the UK Director of the European Certificate and Masters in Affective Disorders Courses and a member of the International Centre for Science in Drug Policy. He has edited the Journal of Psychopharmacology for over two decades and acts as the psychiatry drugs advisor to the British National Formulary. He has published over 400 original research papers, a similar number of reviews and books chapters, eight government reports on drugs and 27 books. The address will include a Q&A during which time audience members can pose questions to Professor Nutt. Our events are as intelligent as our audience so please join us for what should be a lively and engaging evening.
Please bring your free ticket with you to the event. You cannot be guaranteed entry without your ticket and those without tickets may be allowed entry only if spaces are available. To cover the expenses of hosting this event we suggest a small donation of £2 from students and £4 from members of the public at the door for those who are able. The York Union is a strictly not-for-profit organisation run by a small group of volunteers.
