Nottingham Nottinghamshire Libraries Readers Day

The 16th annual Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Readers' Day - an annual all-day event for book lovers organised by the library services of Nottingham City Council and Inspire. This year's guest speakers include: Christy Lefteri - author of the critically acclaimed The Beekeeper of Aleppo, which puts a human face on the Syrian war - born out of her time working as a volunteer at a UNICEF-supported refugee centre in Athens. Abir Mukherjee - The bestselling and multi-award winning author of the Sam Wyndham series of crime novels set in Raj-era India joins us following the publication of his much-anticipated novel Death in the East. Abir is the winner of the 2017 CWA Historical Dagger Award and the 2018 Wilbur Smith Award, and his second novel A Necessary Evil was featured on ITV’s Zoe Ball Book Club.

Kit de Waal - Kit’s debut novel My Name is Leon won the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year 2017 and was shortlisted for the Costa First Book Award. Her second novel The Trick to Time was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Also the editor of Common People: An Anthology of Working Class Writers, Kit will talk about her work in conversation with Jane Brierley. The day also includes a range of fascinating parallel sessions for readers to choose from in the morning and afternoon. This year's sessions feature exciting authors including Caz Frear and KL Slater, and cover an array of topics - from a look at working class film adaptations to the portrayal of older women in fairytales. Important: Before booking your tickets, please read about the parallel sessions in the printed leaflet or on the web page and choose your preferences.
On booking, you'll be asked to select a first and second preference for both the morning and afternoon. We can't guarantee your preferred choices, but we'll do our best.
