Jewellery Quarter Music Walk

Join us for a music-themed walking tour of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter led by Jez Collins, founder of the Birmingham Music Archive, with over 20 years of experience as a social and cultural entrepreneur in the creative, and particularly music, industries in Birmingham. This two-hour walk will reveal some of the hidden stories, spaces and places of Birmingham’s music history and heritage in the Jewellery Quarter. We’ll visit the site where Robert Plant would jam with touring bands and where a young David Bowie would suggest the formation of one the great Birmingham bands. You’ll hear about The Krays being sent packing back to London and the infamous Battle of the Cedar Club, known as the most violent gig ever to take place in the UK. We’ll follow in the footsteps of some of the giants of 60s music by visiting the site of Alex’s Pie Stand where bands would congregate to talk about the gigs they had just played across the UK, and we’ll visit the site of ex-footballer Andy Gray’s old club that was at the centre of the New Romantic scene and hear about the glitz and glamour of the city’s legendary house clubs and nights of the 80s & 90s.

Join us as we delve into some of the lesser known histories of Birmingham’s rich and vibrant history. Please arrive at 1000 Trades bar (address: 16 Frederick St, Birmingham B1 3HE) 10 minutes before to ensure that the tour can start on time. We also strongly urge you to download the free app Zappar as I'll be using some wearable tech to enhance and unlock content during the tour. The app is available for iPhone on the App Store or Android on the Google Play site and which can be found on their site: https://www.zappar.com
