Birmingham Resources Waste Strategy England

Join us for this upcoming event, which will provide resource management professionals with the opportunity to contribute to IEMA’s response to government on the Resources & Waste Strategy for England. The ambitious Resources & Waste Strategy was released by the UK government in December 2018. It includes bold targets for England, including a zero avoidable waste economy by 2050, phasing out avoidable plastic waste by 2042 and eliminating food waste from landfill by 2030. To enable the attainment of the objectives, the strategy also outlines some key policy reforms that will be subject to public consultation. These include: - The introduction of a deposit return scheme for disposable beverage containers; - The government’s intention to invoke the ‘polluter pays’ principle and extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging to ensure producers pay the full net costs of managing packaging waste at the end of its life; - Reforming the regulations for duty of care for waste carriers; - Transposition of the Circular Economy Package.

Join IEMA at this workshop led by Marc Jourdan, IEMA Policy & Engagement Lead during which we will discuss the key findings of this new Strategy and the reforms that are required to help deliver these fundamental changes and incentivise businesses, local government and citizens to do the right thing to protect our environment. Please note, lunch is not provided. Registration will open at 12.30pm.  This event is worth 3 hours of IEMA Recognised CPD.
