The Beef Efficiency Scheme (BES) events will provide advice and guidance on how to improve herd fertility, focusing on technical performance in addition to the financial and management benefits. Those in the Beef Efficiency Scheme are required to attend one event this Autumn as part of the scheme requirements. Maximising fertility SAC livestock experts will deliver a session on maximising fertility and will cover the following topics: Targets for herd fertility; Identifying fertility issues; Bull management pre-bulling; Bulling and calving periods; Use of Artificial Insemination (AI); Nutrition through bulling period; Cow condition scoring; Management of bulling heifers and age of calving; Management and nutrition through pregnancy; Health of herd. Matching systems to resources 5 Agri livestock experts will deliver a session on matching systems to resources and will cover the following topics: Improving performance by marginal gains; Improving performance by system change; What is the most efficient system for your farm and resources; Calving date and grass growth Wintering systems Pros and cons of spring versus autumn calving; Optimum sale point- calf, store, finished; Replacement policies; What is preventing change?
