Beats & Pieces is not your average ‘big band’ - it is a band that happens to be big. Coming from the legendary musical city of Manchester, these 14 musicians have set out to capture you with their very own sound embracing raw rock energy and refined jazz concepts; pop melodies to sing along with, grooves to shake your body to and primal improv that will shake your soul to its core. Their music is an expression of the band’s members and their varied musical backgrounds and activities, brought together in the inspired writing of director and composer Ben Cottrell – influenced as much by Michael Jackson, Björk or Radiohead as they are by Duke Ellington, Gil Evans or Loose Tubes. One of the most exciting ensembles of its kind anywhere in Europe, Beats & Pieces are the most intriguing bunch of gentlemen you’ve encountered in a long time.

“If [Beats & Pieces’] stonking, full-blooded performance at Bray Jazz Festival 2017 [IE] was anything to go by, then the new album and accompanying tour will be something to look forward to. Modern big band music has rarely sounded this vital” Ian Patterson, All About Jazz (9 May 2017) This European tour – their largest to date – will see the band perform at clubs and festivals in the UK, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and, for the first time, Belgium. They will play music from their first two albums “Big Ideas” (2012, Efpi/Proper) and “All In” (2015, Efpi/Proper) as well as new pieces from their forthcoming third album (released Spring 2018), including lead single “time” which will be released and available for radio play in early November. This tour precedes an extensive year long programme of activity in 2018 celebrating the band’s 10th anniversary – a remarkable achievement for any large ensemble, and particularly one working in the current UK arts climate. Previous live highlights across Europe have included North Sea Jazz Festival (NL), Jazzahead (DE), Oslo Jazz Festival (NO), 12 Points festival (IE), and Love Supreme Festival (UK).
