In our first academic partnership, we are delighted to be hosting Professor Maria Wyke of University College London, who will present a series of short films exploring depictions of Ancient Rome in early cinema. Prof Wyke is one of the leading Latinists of our times, and this talk will focus on her work as part of the 'Ancient World in Silent Cinema' project. Her achievements and bibliography are too numerous to fit on the truncated space of a the Facebook description, but needless to say it is an absolute honour to host her and to hear her speak on this fascinating topic. Not only that, but we have enlisted the musical talents of Oxford's finest Jazz pianist Nick Gill to accompany the films. Nick, similarly, has a list of achievements longer than Gance's Napoleon (1927), and it is our enormous good fortune to have his skill complete a phenomenal event.
